“Thriller” wasn’t just a promo, it was a short film with a director, storyline, choreography, and a budget that made record labels nervous. After it aired, MTV quietly stopped pretending Black artists didn’t exist.

Michael Jackson was already a global star before he was old enough to drive. He released his first solo No.1, “Ben”, at just 14, while still a full-time member of the Jackson 5. Childhood: not normal. Talent level: alarming.
